Burn Notice vid!!

Perfect song, Chili Peppers, This is the Place and great clip choice. For the Michael/Fi lovers, with almost 0 Sam. Me, I like 'em all, but this is a good character study of Michael.

Walking Forward Back to You - prudence_dearly - due South [Archive of Our Own]
This is the occasionally used trope of age regression via hypnosis, a crack premise written mostly seriously. I like the grounded in reality version of trance states--expanded for story purposes a bit, but still realistic. I'm not 100% sold on Fraser at 21, and I would have dearly loved an age in between that and the "now", but I enjoyed this a lot.

talitha78 | New Vid: "3" --Fastlane (Billie/Deaq/Van)
OMG, Magnum. A Britney Spears song, and I liked it! I think that's the second time for talith78 pulling that trick on me! This is all about the pretty and a little bit of the dorky, but it builds up the heat really well. Dammit, I want a Van and Deaq cameo on White Collar.

blue_soaring | Fic: Gay Hollywood Life Partner, Whatever - RDJ/Jude
Pairing: RDJ/Jude and RDJ/Susan, the first explicit the second not.
Words: 8,500

Jude tries to keep up with whirlwind Robert. He does a little better when he stops trying. Poly-themed, great dialogue, hot, snarky, with a sweet centre. Duh, no wonder I liked it!

merle_p: Problems and their solutions, Alec/Eliot, R
Not the usual sweet stuff. A slightly more realistic take on Eliot's life. Deft writing, some comedic breaks. Great Alec voice.

Parker's Surprise - zvi - Leverage [Archive of Our Own]
Short and so sweet, well, by my definition of sweet anyway. "this whole conversation could have been even more fucked up"

The Student Prince - Chapter 1 - FayJay - Merlin - Fandom [Archive of Our Own]
Does anyone not know this story? 14,000+ hits on the AO3 as at this writing, and a hundred and a half comments, not to mention that everyone and their second cousin Alfred recced it.

But most of those recs were all Romance! and Arthur! and Merlin! and blah, blah, blah, fishcakes. Forget about them. It's got an awesome Gwen, Morgana & Morgause, Gawain, Lance and heaps of in jokes and canon villains like Sophia and Vivian re-imagined very imaginatively. It's a whole world of people of all sorts.

If fact that's why this story is so good, because it starts with a world that looks very, very much like the UK in 2010 and weaves in canon in ways that delightfully fix a lot of canon annoyances (Sophia and the spoiler with the spoiler instead of the spoiler), and is just good wholesome escapist fun. But that world is not sanitized. It's not ever looked at through lenses too pink. It's a world very, very much as bad and good and complicated as the real one.

Really great story.

imperfectcircle: Merlin: An Ever-Fixed Mark (Part 1/2)
Merlin fusion with an U.K. LeGuin novel--no need to know the novel at all. Lovely poly marriage/magic plot story with a plot and skillfully entwined with the romance as the four protagonists are with each other. Slightly more formal tone than the series, but recognizable characters all the same. Lovely read.

East Coast Gazette - Fic: August
The one where they go back to Ealdor. You can almost see the dust motes in the sun and smell the summer air. Beautiful and lyrical.

hackthis: Merlin - The Kingdom of the Blaggers (AU, Merlin/Arthur, NC-17, 1/3)
All the joie de vive of the best J2 fic, with in character Merlin/Arthur and Gwen/Morgana in a modern Hollywood crossed with Entourage and a side order of Robert Downey Jr. Seriously.

Laying In
A lovely slice of their life after the film. Gently angsty, a rumination on becoming who you already are.

Triangulations - thirdbird - Sherlock (TV) [Archive of Our Own]
The sequel to On Lestrade's Flawed Heart, and Other Slightly Damaged Things. This is very nearly the threesome fic I'd write if I were to get to it. I'd posit a slightly more self-aware and manipulative Sherlock though. Still, good read. Listed as Lestrade/Watson, I consider it a V with Watson in the middle.
Fandom:Sherlock(BBC) Lestrade/Watson

asexual_fandom | Ace Manifesto: Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock)
Title says it all. Includes film clips for those unfamiliar with the source, fic recs, and a link to another meta essay. Part of a new series at the comm. Good stuff.

charmax | New Vid: Sherlock BBC - Anomie
Sherlock vid to People are Strange. Download and Streaming links. Like the way the show's cinematography is used. Lots of quick cuts in the vid, yet it feels less frantic and more organized somehow than the show does. Like it lot, still can't effectively discuss visual art.

Homemaking - rageprufrock - Sherlock (TV) [Archive of Our Own]
Very good Watson, fascinating Clara, and a rageprufrock stock character filling in for Sherlock. That sounds bitchy, and I don't mean it to be, really. The story has great breezy flow, is slightly over-filled with setting details, but they're all fun to "look" at, and the dialogue is fabulous, I just really don't read canon Sherlock as this drawing-room-comedy witty or as a guy who'd care if John Watson performed his middle-class careerism correctly.

Breakfast at 221B - AJHall - Sherlock (TV) [Archive of Our Own]
Very sharp and also sharply sweet. John and Sherlock talk about Sherlock's past and sort out where they are in the present.. I know this casual-seeming, off-hand approach to disclosing the horrors of the past. I know just how that tastes on the tongue, and this story gets that taste on the page to perfection. Love this little snippet.
Fandom:Sherlock(BBC) John/Sherlock

Light Our Own Fires - BlackEyedGirl - Sherlock (TV) [Archive of Our Own]
No melodrama, but some angst, a post first series look at recovery and two guys figuring out who they are together. Author calls Sherlock demisexual, which is a good way of putting it for this fic. I like this author's slightly understated style. Does a good job with the Watson voice (I think he's harder to nail than Sherlock--who is more physically distinct.)
Fandom:Sherlock(BBC) John/Sherlock

Eggcrate. - Basingstoke - Sherlock (TV), Sherlock Holmes & Related Fandoms [Archive of Our Own]
(Third part of a series, but the first two parts are crossovers with a fandom I've never heard of, so I didn't read. Doesn't seem to impact this part at all.)

So perhaps I adored this so much because I read it right before having to go to Thanksgiving dinner with people I'm not related to, but damn this is a good read. Fay Weldon writes Sherlock wherein unusual forms of love triumph over more unusual forms of familial power plays and a family dinner is attempted. A John&Sherlock story that can be read as Gen or as an asexual romance or as UST.

G - thirdbird - Sherlock (TV) [Archive of Our Own]
Fluff it's named, and it was fun fluff in truth. This author nails Watson's clipped and deadpan speech as well as his sense of humour. Fun.

On Lestrade's Flawed Heart, and Other Slightly Damaged Things - thirdbird - Sherlock (TV) [Archive of Our Own]
It's hard when fandom is all about the John/Sherlock to have wanted Lestrade/Watson before the show even aired. You can't have this pairing without Sherlock right in the middle of it, and this fic has that in spades. Sherlock is manipulative, insensitive, possibly dissembling about how much he understands about the lesser mortals around him. Almost too much, but only almost. And remember, my tolerance for that kind of angst-o-rama plot is a bit low. The Lestrade/Watson is a bit sketched in compared to the Lestrade/Watson+Holmes, but it sizzled enough. I know not everyone thinks Rupert Graves now he's grown up is dead sexy like I do. The bits of case story that pop up in background makes this a delightful negative image of shows that have bits of personal life popping up in the case story. Good read.
Fandom:Sherlock(BBC) Lestrade/Watson

Let Your Dreams Run Free NC-17 by telesilla and hily
Highlightable warnings in header. Wonderful, joyful kink story, a first time story, a finding your kind story. I love two things especially beyond the really hot sex--the structure which helps tell the story and is not the fandom norm of a single POV, and the way both people must be and can only be who they are in all ways for the relationship to work. Anton is lovely and adorable and young, but not woobie or naive. Chris is the dom every sub wants.

Jeu-Parti - Macedon - Star Trek: Deep Space Nine [Archive of Our Own]
Jake Sisco/OMC A story born of a crack premise. Salene, a castrato Vulcan singer meets Jake on DS9 and they turn out to be meant to be. Half a WNGWJLEO, but not irritatingly so. Salene is gay. And mentally ill by Vulcan standards. Oh, and it's kidfic in the last part.

I like the take on Vulcan culture as family based and restrictive both. I like the fact that it takes place on Earth for a great deal of the story, so little Trek does. I just really enjoyed the relationship which is adult and complex and full of ups and downs and for all it started out as crack it finished as a good yarn. Oldie, but goodie.
