festivids is the theme of this post. This is all the vids I've watched through so far. One exception to that is a few vids, including both Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon vids, which were so dark in the streaming version offered that I just couldn't get my equipment to display them well enough to watch in a meaningful way. I'm hoping these will be offered in a downloadable version of a higher quality at some point. I know some vidders don't have access to hosting space, and/or just don't like having the vid be downloadable, but I'd like the chance to really see these vids.

As a vid watcher, I'm really influenced by the music, and there's a lot of popular current music that I really don't care for at all. Some vids I didn't watch through might be really good, but I can't get past the song.

I have a very poor visual memory for most canons. I will not get the significance of a clip choice because it came from that episode where that thing happened and now it's being used to say this. Goes right over my head. I find I like vids that use the clips in a context within the vid--I often really like constructed reality vids, for example--or that are readable more on stylistic or thematic grounds rather than as meta commentary on the source.

I have no frickin' clue about colour theory or film criticism or visual symbolism. Vids that are all about that will also just go over my head. On to my list:

There is a vid for The Court Jester. A Danny Kaye film!!!! There's a vid for it!!!! And it's awesome, with a song by one of my favourite Jump Daddy Swing bands!!!! And Mildred Natwick's face. Oh, god, I love this.

(Did you know the flagon with the dragon holds the brew that is true? Or is that the chalice from the palace? I can never get that straight.)

Right, so, I've only ever heard Lady Gaga on vids. This is a great vid that accomplishes the not so easy feat of using one artist's song and a whole host of their videos and telling a gripping story. It's just, that's a country I've never been to in that vid, and I don't know the language or the culture, and I don't think my reactions mean much. This is likely really awesome if you know the language.

Oh, the doomed love! Delicious emo take on the film. (Still love Lori Petty more than both dudes put together though.) Good vid, that sets the right tone of emo angst without tipping over into wallowing.

The right song for the right clips. (I really liked this song, and I wasn't familiar with the group. They respect the roots of hip hop and use it to great effect.)

Strips some of the gloss off the lifestyle more than the film did, which makes a lovely change from the Adam Lambert PG 13 version of glam rock. Good vid.

Oh just perfect. Perfect song, perfect clips and it just captures the oh so deeply, symbolically political relationship between the guys. I love this silly, silly film, so I am totally biased, but I think this is a fab vid.

The song works really well to give a feel of relentless inevitability to the story the vid tells. It really changes up the tone of a film that had abit of that 70s era ponderous pace. Takes a threesome reading of the relationships (to my eye)

Really unusual song choice, but it sets a theme that stays backgrounded and works with the clips well. The song is also in its way and from its time as campy and poppy as the show was in its time, so that works well. I'm not in the fandom, haven't seen the show in 30+ years, but it was a nice nostalgia trip, and wow, dudes, what a silly, slashy show.

Okay so I hate the song. Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane. Made horrible by CanCon rules. (Which means it was played to death, resurrected, and played to death some more in this country.)

But! I still love the vid. It actually (almost) redeems the song! I'd also forgotten how really silly that show was. And how sloooooow all the stunts play out. Fun vid, and I forgive the song.

No streaming version, so you have to download. This is why I watched that campy, silly show and it's all here in one vid. Dr. Helm and the woman who keeps saving his bacon--and he returns the favour once in a while. Plus swords. Happy-making vid.

Can be read as constructed reality or as the espionage subplots of canon. Fun, lovely focus on my favourite parts of the show.

Not my taste in music, but a perfect song choice for the material and excellent cuts makes it work. I love Eddie, that helps too.

Ah, now, I wonder who made this? Fantastic fast cut action vid to a good song. This is everything that made the movie good with the cracky and fun and popcorn violent action.
